Good Samaritans Collect a Ton of Trash

Literally, this is what a church volunteer organization did on Feb. 12.

The World Mission Society Church of God, located in Ridgewood, continued its’ third consecutive week of its "Good Samaritan Movement" by working with the Morristown Clean Communities Program to clean up the parking lots on Coal Avenue and Center Street, as well as along Martin Luther King Avenue on Sunday, Feb. 12.

Approximately 100 church volunteers gathered in the cold temperatures to collect debris, litter, scrap metal and even several mattresses from the parking lots.

“The church members were wonderful," said Clean Communities Coordinator Kathleen Margiotta. "They were a powerful force and did an amazing job in one afternoon.” The group collected almost one ton of garbage, 250 pounds of recyclables and a half-ton of scrap metal, Margiotta said.

Mayor Tim Dougherty was on hand to personally express his gratitude. “I am really impressed with their unity and cheerfulness despite the bitter cold," he said. "It is my hope that the people using these parking lots will now step up and keep them clean.”
