'No Smoke, Just Smell' from Overheated Elevator Motor

One firefighter injured in afternoon incident at County Courthouse.

An overheated elevator motor was blamed for tripping fire alarms shortly after 4 p.m. Monday at the Morris County Courthouse.

Though there was no smoke reported from the malfunctioning motor located above the Jury Assembly Room, one Morristown fire fighter was reportedly sent to Morristown Medical Center for a minor injury.

David Barter, assistant Morris County fire marshall, said the whole incident was over in about 15 minutes, with both Morristown and Morris Township fire departments responding.

"There was no smoke, just smell," he said.

Barter said the fire fighter sent to the hospital had hit his head on a beam during the incident, but was doing fine.
