Police: Drunk Man Assaulted Cops After Getting Ride Home
The following arrest information was supplied by the Morristown Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.
If you're drunk and a police officer offers you a ride home, there are a lot of ways to say "thank you." Taking a swing at him afterward is probably not the best.
That's what police say happened shortly before midnight on Oct. 30, when Officer Jesse Dickerson got a call about a man on Morris Street who appeared highly intoxicated and was falling onto the street.
When Dickerson arrived, witnesses said the intoxicated man, identified later as Adam Lottino, 27, of DeHart Street, had gone inside the Morris Street Dunkin Donuts, according to a police incident report.
When Dickerson went in, he spoke with Lottino, who was swaying in line, had dirt and water all over his clothes, and had a swollen and bleeding upper lip, according to the report. Lottino told the officer where he lived, and that his friends had left him in town, according to the report.
Dickerson offered Lottino a ride, which Lottino accepted, and was driven to his home on DeHart Street, according to the report.
When they arrived, Lottino thanked Dickerson for driving him home and proceeded to fall to the ground, according to the report. Then, while they were standing outside of the home, Lottino's friends called from the doorway for him to come inside, to which Lottino responded by yelling curses and racial expletives and running down Macculloch Avenue, according to the report.
When Dickerson found Lottino behind the house and asked where he was going, Dickerson said in his report, Lottino turned suddenly and swung with his right backfist, hitting Dickerson on the right ear and cheek.
Dickerson then placed him under arrest and needed assistance from another officer to get Lottino in handcuffs, according to the report.
Police transported Lottino to Morristown Medical Center instead of police headquarters due to his high level of intoxication, according to the report. There, he was charged with assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest.
While at the hospital, Lottino continued to yell racial slurs and curses and would not cooperate, forcing hospital staff to place him in leather restraints, according to the report.
Dickerson was not injured in the altercation and did not receive any medical attention as a result, according to the report.
