Public Urination, Defecation Fine Hike Passes

Morristown raises minimum fine to $500.

Town Council officially made answering the call of nature in the great outdoors of Morristown more expensive last week.

The council unanimously approved an ordinance amendment Tuesday, Sept. 18 that makes the minimum fine for anyone urinating or defecating in a public space in Morristown $500.

The ordinance amendment comes at a time where Morristown's nightlife has increasingly gained attention as more and more people come to patronize its bars and restaurants.

Prior to this ordinance amendment, introduced in August, there was no minimum fine associated with public urination or defecation in town. Meaning, a judge could technically issue a fine anywhere from $10 to the maximum allowable fine of $2,000, said Vij Pawar, the town attorney.

In addition, under the ordinance amendment people with three violations would have to pay a minimum fine of $1,000.

Did they ever think of installing public bathrooms someplace around town? ...and have the bars pay for them. Or charge people $1 to use it.

Where do you think all these drunk people are going to relieve themselves after the bars close and everyone is kicked out. I doubt any business is going to allow throngs of people to come in and use their facilities. If there is no bathroom and you gotta go, you still gotta go!

And of course, you can't go back in the bar because its closed and they won't let you use their bathrooms. Once the bar is closed, its not their problem anymore.

Did you ever think of not drinking so much that you can't determine when you have to go to the bathroom. And after the bars have closed why haven't you started going home instead of hanging around on the streets.
I would not like to see permanent port-o-johns throughout Morristown. And I doubt the drunks letting out would have enough sense to use them even if they were there.

Adults over the age of 21 should have enough self-control to not use Morristown as a toilet! If you drink so much you can't make it to your car without having to urinate in someone's bushes, a $500 ticket is the least of your problems! Maybe time to stop drinking...

a lot of people urinate in public on Speedwell Ave. Do you think it might have something to do with the Metro Shop Clothing Store? That place is always packed for some weird reason. 130.5 Speedwell Ave!

There is something strange going on on the corner by Pan Pizza on Speedwell Ave. There are always people urinating behind that building. Is the Metro Shop the store right next to Pan Pizza? I hear that place is up to no good. Someone should look into it.

Don't people think to use the restroom before leaving the club or bar?
Why haven't the police checked out the activity at Metro? Many people have commented there is a problem there. Sounds like the place should be closed down.
