Seen in Morristown: Remember New Jersey Bell?

It's been years since this was our phone service, and since this sign had a payphone attached for that matter.

Ma Bell would be so proud.

Once, before Verizon, there was Bell Atlantic. Before Bell Atlantic, there was New Jersey Bell. Remember those television commercials and that bass-filled voice of James Earl Jones?

While those days are long gone, and the primitive phone services that came with them, an artifact of what seems an age ago still exists in the parking deck at Morristown Medical Center. And, though the payphone that no doubt accompanied this sign is part of that past, the sign is still a reminder of a simpler time before everyone was tweeting and texting into their telephones–they were just talking into them.

Remember, that equipment was state of the art when it was first installed...from today's perspective, yes, it was primitive. Keep in mind that today's "I-phone4" will be considered "primitive" in....oh 10 weeks from now.

Hey, don't get me wrong, I'd sometimes love to go back to the days when you rented your phone from the phone company. Well, maybe not that. That was annoying.
