Tell Us: Is Morristown Safe?
Residents reported shots fired on Mills Street early Wednesday morning.
We go to bed at night, expecting the night to pass by without any incident, until we return to the world the next morning.
But, at around 1 a.m. on March 21, according to police, gunshots may have been fired on Mills Street.
Eyewitness accounts told police a light-colored sedan had been speeding down the road, and someone in the vehicle may have fired the gunshots, according to a press release issued by the Morristown Police Department on Wednesday afternoon. In that release, police confirm that evidence of a weapon being fired was recovered from the scene.
This is not the first incident involving major crime to happen in Morristown recently.
In June 2011, police reported that a man carrying a handgun carjacked two individuals near Phoenix Avenue and Washington Street, taking their automobile. Earlier this month, in a report first issued by the Daily Record, police say a drug deal gone bad resulted in one man being robbed of $1,200, a designer watch and being forced to eat cigarettes.
We want to know: Do you think Morristown is safe? Are these isolated incidents that people need to be aware of but not personally concerned about? Or, are they part of a greater problem that must be addressed? Take our poll and leave your comments below.

Unless you live in Cowtown, USA you're going to have isolated incidents such as this. If you're worried, either move to Cowtown or prepare yourself and your family to protect yourselves and your home. Exercise your Second Amendment rights that we have fought so hard to protect.

For 30 years, my family and I have owned and operated our auto repair shop ( Braun Automotive ) behind the train station .... in those 30 years we have NEVER had a car stolen or damaged.
I feel safe in Morristown .... No town is 100% safe, crime is everywhere, you just have to keep your eyes open !

Thanks, Go Motown and Jackie, for your comments. We would love more people to express their opinion on this question. So far, more folks indicate these have been isolated incidents in Morristown according to the poll, but if anyone else wants to speak on this question, feel free!

This is a question that should be asked frequently, not just in Morristown but anywhere. It is not about being alarmist or paranoid, but about being conscientious about the place one lives in, what they can do to help, and how to spot when something of negative consequence could happen. That's how problems don't start; they're recognized while there's time to do something about them.
Far too many times I've read the stories of people who insisted "that can't happen here" until it, in fact, does. Being in a community means being aware of what's going on and not being afraid to occasionally ask, "are we good here?"
