Town Website Ready For A Makeover

Council approves outside service to update Morristown Internet identity.

The Town of Morristown homepage is about to get an extreme makeover.

The Town Council approved earlier this week a deal with Govoffice for the creation and maintenance of a new Morristown website, with a cost of $7,925.

Govoffice is a product of Avenet Web Solutions, a Minneapolis, Minn., based firm. According to the company's website, "GovOffice is the Nation's leader in local government Websites–serving over 1,400 communities, small to large, across the United States. "

Mayor Timothy Dougherty said he was excited about the project.

"This is something I wanted to do when I campaigned [for mayor]," said Dougherty, who is serving his first year as mayor. "I am glad the council is supporting this."

Currently, the Town of Morristown website is maintained by volunteers at Town Hall, which the mayor said he was grateful for, but, "It's time to have a professional website."

Dougherty said the new Morristown website would be more up-to-date, with real-time information being streamed through.

"More and more, people are relying on technology to get the information they need," he said. "We can do a better job."

Dougherty said he hoped the project would begin within a month, with the site up and serving the town "as soon as possible," he said.
