Two Morristown Men Shot on Abbett Avenue

One 26-year-old in stable condition and a 28-year-old has been released from hospital.

Two men were shot early Saturday morning on Abbett Avenue near American Legion Post 312, the law enforcement officials said Tuesday.

Police are currently investigating the incident, which resulted in both men being taken to the Morristown Medical Center.

The Morris County Prosecutor's Office and Morristown Police Department said that around 12:40 a.m. Saturday, police received several 911 calls reporting the shooting.

Police said there were two people shot, but they haven't released the identity of either. Both are from Morristown, police said.

One was a 26-year-old man who remained at the hospital in stable condition Tuesday, police said. The other was a 28-year-old male who had been treated and released from the hospital.

Mayor Tim Dougherty said Tuesday that he has been in constant contact with Morristown Police Chief Peter Demnitz, who has said the community is safe. He also said there were no fatalities as a result of the incident.

"Our police chief is in connection with the prosecutor's office. They'll be the lead agency on this," the mayor said.

The incident is currently being investigated by the Morristown Bureau of Police, Morris County Prosecutor's Office Major Crime Unit and the Morris County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Section.

Police are asking anyone with information to call the Morristown Bureau of Police at 973-538-2200, Morris County Prosecutor’s Office at 973-285-2900 or the Morris County Sheriff’s Office Crime Stopper program at 973-COP-CALL.
