Video: Morristown After the Bars Let Out
A look at the downtown scene after last call on a weekend evening.
Depending on who you ask, the bar scene in Morristown is either lively and vibrant or one step away from chaos. So, Morristown Patch decided to see for ourselves what downtown–specfically in this video outside Iron Bar, Sona Thirteen, The Dark Horse Lounge and Grasshopper off the Green–is like when "last call" comes on a Saturday night and bar patrons take to the streets early Sunday morning at 2 a.m.
Do you think the bar scene is a problem in Morristown, or not as bad as some people say? Chime in below.

Would be a great reel for people that are thinking of buying at an in town location...that neglected to notice all the bars...most of us drove home to our quiet neighborhoods before 2AM. It is a place to go have fun.
GO EARLIER! There are a ton of great restaurants and people out and about. 2AM never looks good on film no matter where you are.

Haha.. so true. But its really not bad at all. I live and work in Morristown and have been going on out town for years before. I never really ever thought that there was a problem. It still is pretty quiet and not much noise is made. I have never felt unsafe, i've never seen anyone urinate in public and very rarely have fights broken out or anything like that. Plus, the police do a real good job of being quite noticeable and keeping the peace.
They should take a video at 2:20 when the place is dead quiet because everyone is now either at the Morristown Diner or have already left. (remember last call is 1:30 and everyone is already out and gone from the bars by 1:45-:50).

Agreed Bec.............too bad the retail segment of Morristown fails too generate that consistent excitement and traffic that our restaurants and bars generate. I suspect with the proper editing, events like the "Jazz Festival" or "Movie night on the green" could look bad with the filming of the garbage left on the ground and the police presence, throw in an ambulance driving by with lights flashing (for the unsafe environment backdrop) and you can create your message. The patch should be a little less transparent.

I don't see anything wrong with this scene. Not nearly as bad as people make it out to be.

Well, after seeing this I can say I'm glad I didn't buy in 40 Park.

Because you have the $1 million dollars to buy a 1 bedroom condo anyway.

Shocker, loud drunken idiots acting like morons and having no respect for actual residents. This is nothing new, except now there are people living in million dollar condos directly above the fray.

You know that the bar scene is over-taking your town when Snooki & friends want to come hang out there. Well, since we are now 'linked' by unholy marriage to the Jersey Shore, maybe Morristown should consider what Point Pleasant Beach did...close the bars an hour earlier at 1:00am, instead of 2:00am. Nothing good ever comes out of that last hour between 1 & 2am anyway.

No no.. if anything I think the bars should stay open later. Think about it. Last call... EVERYONE is out in the middle of town. People have to leave so there are throngs of drunk people who just finished chugging their last beer all stuffed together on the sidewalks making the perfect scene to cause problems and for people to flow into the streets.
Now what if last call was later... like it is in neighboring states. People would slowly come out as the night fizzles away. There wouldn't be crowds standing outside making lots of noise, only just a few people at a time. There wouldn't be tons of of loud obnoxious drunk people standing outside all the restaurants... because people would slowly come and go and there would be standing/sitting room INSIDE the restaurants, not outside.
You wouldn't have the house/after-parties spread out through the town. All the people would still be in one area, INSIDE and not roaming around town at 2am (do you think people really go to bed at 2am)? No.
Plus, instead of being forced to leave at 2am, people can hang out for a longer period of time and sober up.
And, if you have ever been out at the bars at 1-2am, you would know that it is prob the busiest time! Think about how much more money could be made if the bars didn't have to force everyone to leave!

Every town has a "Downtown" only some are bigger than others. Whoever took this footage not only did a poor job of filming it but depicted an aspect of Morristown that poorly represents the town itself. Morristown is the heart of Morris County which houses our court system, major medical facilities, large corporations, law firms, banks and several large retailers and specialty stores. Homeowners range from the homeless to the very affluent. Much like any small city environment, most live there out of convenience and the desire to be a part of the diverse infrastructure available within a short distance from home. If the bar scene is a part of that environment, it's no surprise and equally no detriment if it is attracting people who are inevitably supporting that infrastructure ... including the police department. It is what it is and I believe that is a good thing.

I like how the video had to include that police car with lights flashing even though all the car was probably doing was moving. Did any fights happen? Were there any arrests due to unruly behavior? If not, why would anyone care?

In the 70's the bar's like the "Library" in Cedar Knolls or the "Widow Browns" in Madison along with the "Public House" in Chester were great places to party.. WB's and the Library are gone now.. Times and places have changed but there is no way I would put a target on my back at 2:00am like these adult? kids are doing in Morristown... I guess I'm just getting "old" lol.....

This reporting reminds me of the morristowngreen.com and the daily record. They both pushed a political agenda in return for "inside" scoops. Morristown Patch was doing so well, but I think this was the tipping point.

I'd guess it wasn't intentional. However, the video clearly focuses on one street corner yet shows the shot over and over again to make it look like this crowd is town-wide. Also focuses on the cop car a good bit despite no indication that the cops are reporting to any actual problems.
Again, to me, this video shows nothing more than a pretty well behaved after-hours crowd. No one is getting arrested, no unruly behavior. It even shows people being responsible and getting in a cab!

Glad I don't have a unit at 40 Park. I'll take one at the Vail Mansion and deal with the theatre crowds over there. Mo'Town is the perfect place for a "bar tour" as we used to say. All-in-one / one-stop drinking without having to drive from bar to bar. lol. We used to party up at Hunter Mountain and the Jersey Shore....guess "we" were rowdy's back then, too. Big difference is this is "concentrated" in one small area. 40 Park will need to deal with it, I guess.

The "Snookie" thing is quite troubling especially since she just moved to Florham Park... maybe she will be taping here ... for ... years ... to... come.... (feel better now?)
