What Should Occupy Morristown Electrical Supply?
It's a big space, and a big eyesore, on Spring Street.
Spring Street is something of an unusual space, especially at night.
On one side, the rear of Headquarters Plaza looms large. On the other, a few businesses are operated, though most are closed by later hours. Most people move through this part of town by car, driving either up or down its steep slopes.
Though there was once a business, a rather large one, that provided a little "electricity" to this somewhat gloomy road. Forgive the pun.
Morristown Electrical Supply, at 23 Spring St., is empty. In its place is large, old building, several signs informing potential renter of its availability, and a question: What should "Occupy This Space?" Given its proximity to Morris Street and that road's restaurants, would another restaurant be a good fit? Or, could this location see the return of more industry to a once industry-heavy town? Chime in below.

To tie this in with another article, this would be a great venue for live, original music.

Seconded. The other ideas sound nice in theory but don't really seem profitable. Shouldn't that be the idea so that whatever comes in stays there?

I think this building and the former Blockbuster will be vacant forever.

This store should be occupied by an Internet cafe, money wire service and taxi business which all cater to morristowns huge illegal alien population....oh, nevermind it already is. Apparently mr dunphy doesn't get around town very often.

The yellow brick facade aleady looks like 3 brownstones
-how about some type of delivery where the garage is
-a youth center (which Councilwoman Michelle Dupree Harris has suggested since ex- Mayor Cressitello was in office)
and
-anything to raise the 'cred' of that intersection

Cameron- do you live in morristown? Drive down speedwell and tell me who all those people are? Actually I don't need you to, after 20 years of working right smack in the middle of downtown Mexico city, (speedwell) think I figured out

Cameron- you do know we are talking about morristown nj right ? The illegal alien population is off the charts. I don't know who told you everybody went home, but that's laughable. As far as America being invaded by Europeans 400 years ago- that was then, this is now. You like not living in a third works country, you might want think about altering your view of allowing uneducated masses from invading like barbarian hordes and straining an already strained system.

Yes. Always thought the Yo&Papa space would be great for this as well. Serve a great/simple menu with 3-5 taps of beer brewed on site and other great craft beers to compliment. Wish I had the funding to start something like this in town!

The problem with opening a brewpub is that the start-up and subsequent overhead costs are off the charts. Being a restaurant, bar, AND brewery is ridiculously expensive. I've done research on it before and it's by far the most expensive eating establishment to run.

There had been a proposal for a housing development there. The town added additional requirements as I recall and eventually, the developer pulled out. While the density and mix of apartment price levels are important considerations, a less than optimal project is better than nothing... which is what we are left with.

Great historic building in a section of town that has more traffic and is more difficult to access than almost anywhere and there is no convenient parking. Some sort of housing would probably work best here. With HQ Plaza across the street and the Mid Town shopping center next door and the RR station so close, you wouldn't even need a car.

No Banks; no Night Clubs; no Dining Spots. Maybe apartments. How about some kind of park - like a "green" space?

Yes. Parks built on the side of a hill with no level space always do very well...

Another idea:
when the wise decision to build the Headquarter Plaza in the late '70s was born - one of buildings to be razed was a very impressive fire station and the new one built to replace it undeniably kinda' blows. If the owners across the street from Morristown Electrical Supply follow through on moving the apt. building (circa 1750) in order to build Futbolandia (sports bar/gastro pub type place why not make a new fire station since the town has been looking for an appropriate spot for years

It's funny how everyone responds to articles like this as if we have a vote in the matter.
