Woman Punched in Face in Front of Cop, Police Say

Randolph 21-year-old accused of simple assault.

Despite officers being in plain view, police say a bar patron punched another in the face over the Thanksgiving holiday.

Jennifer Coreas, 21, of Randolph, was arrested and charged with simple assault just after 1 a.m. Nov. 22. According to a police report filed by Officer Brendan Briscoe, police were patrolling the area near DeHart and South streets when a woman approached him and said an unknown female had assaulted her inside The Dark Horse Lounge.

As Briscoe continued to take the woman's information, she pointed to another female—later identified as Coreas—and said, "that is her," referring to the person she said had assaulted her in the bar, the report said.

Briscoe then approached Coreas and asked her to stay where she was while he investigated the alleged incident, according to the report. The officer returned to speak with the other woman when Coreas, who had followed him, punched the woman in the face, according to the report. Coreas was then placed under arrest.

Coreas was transported to Morristown Police headquarters where she was processed and later released on her recognizance.

Coreas (hispanic) is the only person that punched anyone in Morristown in the last 2 weeks? I'm sorry you still don't see the pattern John P.

Maria, it's quite possible that yes, Coreas *was* the only person to punch someone in the face in front of a cop in Morristown in the last 2 weeks.

Hey Maria, when's your next KKK meeting?!?! BTW...Corea is originally a French name. You might want to check the nationality of the women before making any claims.

And the town zoning officer? Give us that story. Enough of the drunk stories and the degrading of hispanics. Whats the latest on the zoning officer and what exactly did he do?

Pretty amazing that something two weeks ago is the news of the day for Morristown. Is this article really the most important news for Morristown, it's beginning to feel like an agenda............let's bash bar's and or report any incidences with Hispanic's. Maybe it's the former Mayor's ghost coming back to rid the town of illegals???

This isn't a real "bash bars" story. This is about someone getting bashed...in the face...at a bar...a bar named The Dark Horse Lounge. You must've meant to post a comment on a different story altogether. This story is a story about someone getting assaulted at The Dark Horse Lounge.

Shotbaker perhaps you are correct, I just don't understand why something that happened two weeks ago is suddenly news worthy. I bet we could dig deep enough on any subject and create a slant on it. If this is journalism, then it should be fair and balanced. If this is a blog, or like morristowngreen.com that is funded by the town, then we can expect bias reporting. I enjoy The Patch, I just don't want to see it slide into being a cheerleader for one cause or another.

Mr. Dunphy should have explained why the story did not come out until two weeks after the incident ... did the police not release the report until now?

I believe that's about the time table OPRA (Open Public Records Act) takes to process in Morristown. Seems our editor is doing some investigating reporting. The Patch is a great forum, I just wish it were a little more balanced. Morristown certainly has more newsworthy events than posting DUI's and reporting every bar related incident. I'm afraid that the constant attention to these topics will begin to define our town as such. Morristown offers far more than just a night life, yet there seems to be a disproportionate amount of attention spent on this subject.

i think its hilarious. i don't care what ethnicity you are, if you're stupid enough to punch somebody in the face in front of a cop, you deserve to get arrested and have it written about on this site.

Isn't there security at The Dark Horse? Why did the victim have to seek police help on the street? Is this a place where one might be assaulted and no one inside does anything about it?
And Maria, Why would you call attention to this woman being Hispanic?

Dunphy, may I ask what is the point of the "police & fire" section for patch?! Isn't that what this junk news is for??? Fights, DUIs, arrests should go there and if people wanted to hear about this stuff they can take the time to go there. The front page HEADLINER should be for REAL informative news, not this junk. This isn't US WEEKLY. As a loyal reader of your site, I truly think you should reconsider the stories you use as a headliners.

This is real news and I am glad that it is posted. I was assaulted at the Dark Horse Lounge and nothing was done about it. A man hit me with a beer bottle and the manager saw him. I spoke with a police officer and they could not identify the man as he ran away down the road. Wake up people- Morristown is going down the tubes.

If I wanted to hear about bar fights I would read the police blotter. This is the problem with the news today. All negative. What about the positive things happening? You could read this "real news" in the section where it belongs if you're so concerned about which bar you want to go to this weekend. Many of the above comments are true. There are so many wonderful things about Morristown that could be written about, but there seems to be an insane focus on the bars the past fews months.... all things that have been happening for years in every town. Now we just have Patch to HIGHLIGHT them. You could make a nice comparison to Patch and the trashy magazines like Star or US Weekly. Give me real news Dunphy. This is crazy. Stop downgrading your writing and responsibility over there.

time for the bars to close down at midnight. These kids just don't know when to say when. I get bombed in my house & I can tell you it is much better when you have to throw up in your own toilet as opposed to the one's at the bars that are litterered with feces, urine & those little flies. Yuck-ers

I am with you Liz. Race is not an issue and Maria, people don't go around punching people in the face, no matter what their name is! You are so on top of things, let me know any other face punching incidents!
And Moira, you are so on target with your question. Why would Maria call attention to a Hispanic name? An assumption! And you know what it makes out of you and me!
Most of us white people love the diversity. I could live in Harding BUT choose to live here because it's the awesome real world!

There better not be any assaults this Saturday during the "Ugly Sweater Pub Crawl."
If there is, I bet I can predict the reason.
