May is National Bike Month, and Bike and Walk Morristown is celebrating it in a big way, or maybe many, many small ways.
We've moved our Bike-o-Rama week from the fall to this May and are ready to ride (and walk) all over Morristown, and have fun while doing it. When we started Bike-o-Rama two years ago, we knew Morristown was only 3 square miles. We started thinking, "Hey! if we could get people riding on short rides in town that were superduper fun, maybe they would realize it is not so hard to ride to the library or the grocery store or out to get a bite to eat? Maybe!" We also just like having fun.
With bikes and fun in mind, we have a ton of events going starting this week. These events are open to everyone, and also everyone's friends, so bring them along too. These events involve alleycat races, book signings, cupcakes, gelato, music from the Original Music School, hula hoops, prizes, Double Dutch Bicycles, ice cream, movies, and a chance to get your portrait taken with your favorite bike. We also have a few walks for people who want to explore the town without their pedals.
Here's the schedule:
Tuesday, May 15: Green Drinks at George and Martha's, 6 to 9. Stop by Sustainable Morristown's Green Drinks and pick up a schedule for the rest of Bike-o-Rama week and learn about other things Bike and Walk Morristown is up to.
Wednesday, May 16: Hollywood Rides a Bike book signing at Marty's Reliable Cycle, 6 pm.
Friday, May 18: Bike to Work Breakfast, 6:30 - 8:30 am. Marty's Reliable Cycle.
Saturday, May 19: Morristown Alleycat Race, 3 pm. A "race" around town with fun games, prizes, glory and silliness. Hard to describe, but it might be the best time you'll have on a bike. Morristown Green Fountain.

Friday, May 25: Bike-o-Rama Bike Month Blast, 5:30-ish to 9:30-ish. The monthly Morristown Community bike ride takes off from Morristown Town Hall at 6:30, but this party starts before and continues rocking afterwards with music from the Original Music School, good food, hula hoops, bike-themed movies on the tennis wall, and a chance to get your portrait taken with your favorite bike. You'll be able to check out Double Dutch Bikes newest cargo bike models, sign up for a bike class from TransOptions and much, much, much more. Lidgerwood Park, off James Street.
Check out Bike and Walk Morristown's facebook page for up-to-the date additions. Don't have a bike? We really like walking too. We also like volunteers who like to have fun and want to help out with these events. Is that you? Email BikeMorristown@gmail.com.
