You know you're working too much when you dream about it.
Last night, I dreamt that Morristown was thinking about hosting Mumford & Sons, instead of Hoboken. A weird, dream-like version of Zebu Forno (R.I.P.) was there, and featured a large outdoor area that was underutilized. And, I said, why don't we hold the concert here?
Morristown has a lot of things to offer, most of them of the food and drink variety. There is music–as evidenced by the upcoming Morristown Jazz & Blues festival. There are concerts at the Mayo Performing Arts Center and cover bands aplenty. But, what about a current, popular, original band performing in an outdoor setting? That's something we're missing.
Are we missing it? Is it something other people think would be good for this town? Or, should I stop working right before I go to bed?

I'd love it, but I know there's no way of getting critical mass to make it worthwhile to get a current, popular band in Morristown. Mayo doesn't exactly get new bands, and when they do, like Fitz & The Tantrums, the price is $20-30 more than I'd pay in NYC, plus I know there are still a lot of tickets for them. I love them and still haven't bought because of the price point.
Something in Hoboken or Jersey City gains critical mass from NYC - let's not be delusional and think Morristown can draw anywhere close to the same. If people love good fresh music they go to NYC (as I do 1-3 times a week), and if they want old reheated bands they see them in local venues (Mayo).
Bands would either have to be too new to charge a solid rate or charge too high a price given the likelihood of low ticket sales - both are not good. Any of these will result in one attempt, significant $ losses, and never happen again.

Morristown has live, original music created and performed daily at the Original Music School, 26 Morris Street. ;-)

Nice plugola, Katrina. Now, you just need to start having public events and then you're onto something.

Morristown is saturated with generic, loud, mediocre cover bands and a sudden influx of jersey shore types. We need original music and a unique bar or two that promotes this. A Brooklyn type bar would be very welcomed, and I think there are more people in this town that want this than the current establishments realize. Dare I say a "hipster" scene? I'd welcome it.

Too bad all the bar owners in Mo'town are more concerned with attracting meatheads instead.

Yes it does. Went last night to Woodbridge Wednesdays, a free outdoor concert (which was moved to the middle school due to rain) that occurs on wednesdays after the farmer's market. no reason we couldn't have more of that here.
