New Jersey Roller Derby Trading in Skates for Sneakers for Good Cause

On Saturday May 5, 2012, Easter Seals, a charitable organization devoted to providing opportunities for children and adults with physical disabilities, held it's 3rd annual "Walk With Me and 5K Run," at the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ. The event that day raised over $90,000!

Participating in the event was New Jersey Roller Derby's Miss USA-hole and Wendy "Xero" Velez. NJRD's skaters were only too happy to trade their skates for their trusty running sneakers all in the name of a great charity and a great cause.

"We train hard for our sport, and this includes running. We figured why not test our legs in a run that's more than just a warm up, which is what we are used to for roller derby. It was my first 5k and i hope to do another very soon." stated Miss USA- hole. "The hardest thing was going to practice the next morning!"

New Jersey Roller Derby is New Jersey's newest roller derby league. Based out of Morristown, NJ, NJRD had their first bout of their very first season on 4/21/12 against WFTDA sanctioned Jersey Shore Roller Girls' Beat Down.
