Although many of us were extending our holiday on Thursday, members of the two teams in No Idea Sports' outdoor volleyball final, Set for Life and The Pack, were doing anything but relaxing in the scorching heat.
The two teams split their regular season meetings, with each team taking a win. The Pack handed Set for Life their first loss of the season, 4-1, but Set for Life rallied the week after, beating The Pack, 5-0.
Set for Life opened Game 1 on a 6-0 run and never looked back. The Pack would come within four points, 9-5, but Set for Life would go on to take Game 1, 15-7.
After dropping the first game, The Pack came back stronger, jumping out to a 10-3 lead. In a reversal of Game 1, Set for Life would make a small comeback, but The Pack took Game 2, 15-7.
All tied up at one game a piece, the game started to heat up once The Pack started to find the holes in Set for Life's game. In Game 3, the teams traded points back and forth, but Set for Life would go on to take a very close game, 15-13.
With the championship slowly slipping out of their reach, The Pack got things going by scoring nine straight points to give them an 11-4 lead. Their lead would shrink to just two points after Set for Life rattled off 5 points. But, in the end, The Pack would tie up the championship game, winning 15-12 and forcing a decisive Game 5.
With games that kept getting closer and closer as the night went on, Game 5 was no different. Once again, the teams kept trading points. With the score tied 14-14 and needing to win by two points, The Pack won two straight points to take the No Idea outdoor volleyball championship.
Congratulations to The Pack on their win and to Set for Life on a great championship game! Thanks to all of our other teams: Good Volley Miss Molly, Spike City West, and Game Over for a great outdoor volleyball season!
