About this column:
Business in Morristown is constantly evolving. So, we'll constantly get updates when businesses open ... and close.Quick on the heels of the recent opening of the Top This women's boutique, another purveyor of women's wares has joined the Morristown business landscape. Willow St. Boutique opened Jan. 18 at 12 South St., in the location formerly occupied by Nonchalance, a bridal store that made headlines last year when it suddenly shut down. This is the second location for the women's specialty shop, which also has operated in Summit for 17 years. Sale associate Alyson Vanderploeg said, "we do whatever we can for customers," serving not only as a store but as "wardrobe builders," according to Morristown …
For Morristown Computer Solutions owner Ates Yeger, it took a bad experience to lead him into what became his new career. It was 20 years ago when Yeger, a native of Turkey that moved to the United States in 1982, bought a major-brand computer that quickly went on the blink. So, like most computer owners with an issue, he called the company's tech support line. The result? "What they said didn't make any sense," said Yeger, who opened Morristown Computer Solutions in December on Pine Street. Yeger also has another location in Randolph, called Randolph Computer Solutions. Already into …
It was pretty much from the very beginning. When Morristown Patch Editor John Dunphy came for his first job interview, one of the first things that struck him was, "Greenberry's? What's that?" Since then, it has become part of his, and Patch's, coffee landscape. Here is a small sampling of just how a part of Morristown Patch Greenberry's Coffee and Tea became.
It took a videotape received in college–and, a little time off–before Yana Kofman realized what she wanted to do with the rest of her life. The owner of The Yoga Way, on Elm Street, had always been athletic, mostly as a runner. But, after Kofman gave a dormmate a ride home one day, her fitness outlet began to turn. "He gave me a video of yoga," specifically a video of renowed yoga instructor Patricia Walden, the native of Russia said. "I was hooked." The Mendham resident recently moved her practice from 14 to 18 Elm St., allowing for an expansion of available classes, with age ranges from …
The owners of Golden Cleaners recently held a ceremonial "ground-breaking" at their new location, 130 South St., complete with photos, shovels and Mayor Tim Dougherty. But, the real ground-breaking began soon after, as evidenced by the construction equipment now on-site. Once completed, the business will move from its current location on Washington Street, where it has been for over two decades.
What's in a name? If your name is "Iron Bar," apparently iron. That was what the sign for the newest South Street watering hole appeared to be made of when it was finally installed this week. While the sign is up, work continued on the inside.
As the increasingly emptier and emptier inside indicates, Scotti's on South Street is about ready to call it a career in Morristown. The music shop, in operation here since 1983, is closing at the end of December. The shop is consolidating its remaining merchandise and bringing it to its Summit location–the original Scotti's–which will be the last Scotti's location in existence. As we prepare to say goodbye to 2011, if anyone wishes to wish Scotti's well may do so in this comment thread.
Welcome back to Morristown's Business Roundup, when we look at what's opening–and closing–in Morristown. What were you doing with your life when you were 23 years old? For David Chiarolanzio, the choice was obvious: open a business. On Monday, he did just that, when The Grilled Cheese Factory officially opened on Morris Street. The Madison resident and Fairleigh Dickinson University business graduate said he always knew opening a business was in his future. "But, I wanted to play baseball," he said. "So, I played for four years and retired." After graduating college, Chiarolanzio sold cars through auto auctions, which got old fast. He looked around Morristown and found 28 Morris St., across the …
It all started on a beach in Myrtle Beach. Harry Greisser, his wife and two friends sat there, relaxing in the fading sun, not a care in the world. Save one: They were hungry. A light went off in the Flanders resident's head. Why not development a piece of hardware to allow you to order food from anywhere? And, PCON, the "Personal Concierge," was born. Unfortunately, at least for Greisser, technology moves at a lightning-quick pace. With the mass-proliferation of Smart Phones, his idea had become obsolete. So, instead of scrapping what had already cost him $1 million in research and …
Create, don't imitate. That is the motto for Anthony Vitale, whose Original Music School opened in Morristown in October. First opening in Cedar Knolls six years ago, Vitale–whose several decades in the music industry include a partnership with Grammy-award winning producer John Rollo–wanted to build a music environment that was much more than just learning to cover someone else's music. "I have wanted to teach kids to speak with their own voice, not someone else's," Vitale said from his new space at 26 Morris St., formerly home to the Milk Money children's consignment shop. Although many of …
After months of preparation, and a coy note on the window, The Jury Box is in business. The bagel shop, deli and grill, on the corner of Washington and Court streets, had a soft opening on Sunday, Dec. 4. By Monday, Dec. 12, owner Henry Delgado–who also owns a similar shop in Chester–was greeting returning customers as if there for years. "Everyone who has come in and has continued to come in, and that's great," he said. Delgado signed a lease for the space formerly occupied by 'N All That Jazz Cafe in February. According to the owner–who also works in the mortgage industry for Wells Fargo–he…
