About this column:
Seen in Morristown presents images of what's going on in town this week. What are those animals like? Why do they do what they do? Look how they look? Are how they are? Members of The Raptor Trust, Mercer County Wildlife Center and St. Hubert's Animal Welfare Center hoped to answer those, while presenting an entertaining afternoon for kids and the kids in all of us, when they came to Town Hall Tuesday afternoon for several presentation, which featured some of the very animals they were talking about.
On a chilly night, who doesn't love some board games, drinks and friends? That was the idea of Christine Venart, lead organizer for Meet Your Neighbors Morristown, a Meetup.com group the Morristown resident established a few months ago to help introduce both new and longtime Morristown residents to their neighbors. The "Game Night" was held Wednesday at Zebu Forno, and featured such classics as Apples to Apples, Scattagories and Settlers of Catan. Anyone can sign up for free to the Meet Your Neighbors Morristown group here.
If you haven't set foot in Morristown for a few months, you would be surprised to see the former Washington Building, on the corner of Schuyler and Washington, is long gone. Replacing it is a pocket park, approved earlier this year by the Morris County Board of Chosen Freeholders. The fences have been removed from around the site, which brought a number of curious onlookers out on Monday. Nick Dimitrakiou, of FTI Consulting located above Tito's Burritos, said the park opens up the space "to these two nice buildings," he said. "It's a gateway to Morristown." Andreas Panayi, one of his partners…
Ho! Ho! Ho! Did you dress up in some holiday fineries fitting for an Old Saint Nick on Saturday? If you did, and were in Morristown, chances are you participated in the annual Santa Pub Crawl. And, if you were out there, you definitely weren't alone. While Morristown Patch's fun-loving editor John Dunphy had a previous holiday-related engagement out of town, our friends over at Eat Drink Morristown wouldn't have missed the event for the world. Here, their editor Brett Wilshe provides a few pieces of photographic evidence from the evening. More available over at their site, www.…
Thousands of people lined police barricades set up at the Green on Friday night to see Santa Claus make his first appearance of the holiday season, and Patch photographer Warren Westura was there to catch it all. With an assist from the Morristown Fire Department, Saint Nick descended from the top of the Century 21 building to greet those who anxiously awaited his arrival.
First, it was an old, empty building. Then, it was a demolished building, behind a backdrop of fences. While the fences remain, today what once was the Washington Building on the corner of Washington Street and Schuyler Place is quickly looking more and more like the pocket park that was announced it would become earlier this year. While no grass has been planted (and, likely won't be until spring, considering the temperatures), pathways and benches now sit on the site, waiting for lunchtimers to gather.
More than a dozen local artists sat down with pizza, coffee, soda and sketchpads Sunday night, as model Jamie Cheatham held his pose on a Zebu Forno bar stool. If you missed it, don't worry, it'll be happening again next week. Every Sunday night, Zebu Forno, in collaboration with Danielle and Chris Merzatta, the organizers of August's Open Drawing Studio Project at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, are holding "Art @ the 'Bu." For a $10 fee, participants get two slices of pizza, one drink and three hours with a model. Kasia Czechowicz has been attending the art events since Zebu began offering …
Recently, Liz Alterman offered up some "Seen in Morristown" sights of the changing leaves of autumn in Morristown. In this post, Morristown resident and friend of Patch, Berit Ollestad, shares her own fall foliage photos.
Though we're still a few weeks away from the peak of the season, the leaves are changing, adding a brief burst of color before Old Man Winter comes to town. Last week, editor John Dunphy enjoyed the view from above. This week Seen in Morristown decided to check out the view from the ground up and enjoy the yellowish-orange canopy that now covers the Green.
Sometimes, looking at something from a different angle is all one needs to shift perspectives. We learned that a while ago, when we walked down Maple Avenue for the very first time. This week, instead of walking, we climbed–all the stairs, leading up to the top of the DeHart Street Garage, which offers a pretty interesting view of Morristown.
During a walk around Morristown this week, we saw: several businesses in various states of pre-opening prep, remnants from last weekend's Gran Fondo NJ and the color teal. What did you see?
