Legendary. It's a word too-easily thrown out there, but when applied to Country musician Willie Nelson, it's pretty appropriate. On Thursday, Oct. 27, the 78-year-old legend brought his guitar "Trigger" and close friends and family to the Mayo Performing Arts Center as part of his "Willie Nelson and Family" tour. David Patino, of David Patino Photography, shot the performance and has shared his photos of The Red-Headed Stranger in action.
"Another One Rides the Bus." "Fat." "Amish Paradise." "White and Nerdy." Multiple generations have laughed and enjoyed the work of "Weird Al" Yankovic over the years. And, on Friday night at Mayo Performing Arts Center, a packed house got to see the master of parody in support of his latest release, "Alpocalypse." Check out Karen Fucito's coverage of the show.
A sold out crowd was on hand at the Mayo Performing Arts Center Monday evening for a performance by "Rock and Roll Hall of Fame" musician Jackson Browne. Browne's tour provided a unique, one-man-show look at the performer: a one man show. Seated on a chair before a microphone with one his 17 guitars or at the piano, Browne played and sang from his songbook of hits from his five decade career. Browne performed for nearly three hours, providing tunes from "The Pretender" to "Fountain of Sorrow" to "I am a Patriot."
We love being out and about, capturing some of the best scenes in Morristown. We also really love it when our readers share their scenes, as well. Christine Katz did just that on Sunday, when she took these fantastic photos from the annual "Festival on the Green" event. Enjoy seeing the festival through her lens. Also, be sure to check out Warren Westura's official gallery here.
There was no sophomore slump on Sunday, Sept. 25, when Grow it Green Morristown hosted its second-annual "Alfresco in the Garden" outdoor dining fundraiser, at The Urban Farm at Lafayette, on Hazel Street. Many turned out for the event, with proceeds benefiting the programs organized at The Urban Farm. Check out these photos, submitted by Grow it Green Morristown founder Carolle Huber.
The former 'N All That Jazz Cafe finally saw some work proceding at what is planned to become The Jury Box, on the corner of Court and Washington streets, near the Morris County Courthouse. Workers will toiling away in the space recently.
It took a couple more weeks, but the inaugural Gran Fondo NJ, benefiting The Seeing Eye, Grow it Green Morristown and Homeless Solutions, went off without a hitch on Sunday. Hundreds of riders from all over the area participated in 42, 63 and 103-mile loops around Morris County, in an event originally scheduled for Aug. 28, but was delayed because of Hurricane Irene. Check out our massive photo gallery from the event.
Ready to pump some iron? The Club at Morristown, the gym inside Headquarters Plaza, a multi-million dollar renovation, over the course of a year, has finally been realized. Mayor Tim Dougherty was on-hand Sunday to ceremoniously cut the ribbon at the grand re-opening, which included promotions and tours of the facilities.
The best times are awaiting us. That was the message from Centro Biblico de New Jersey Pastor David Silva, one of several presenters at the Morristown Community-Wide Remembrance Event, held at 7 p.m. on Sept. 11 at The Community Theatre. "Today, we know we're still in the process of healing," he said to a nearly-packed theater. "Especially, for those who lost a loved one. The whole world changed on Sept. 11, 2001. "There is hope," the pastor said. "We will decide what terrible things will do to us. We can continue to contribute to the world." The Rev. Janet Broderick, of Saint Peters …
Liquid Church–based on Speedwell Avenue, with services held at Hyatt Morristown–held a service on Sunday, Sept. 11, honoring the first responders from Morristown of 9/11. The sermon, which saw hundreds in attendance, was based on a line from the Bible, "Suffering gives rise to perseverance, perseverance to character and character gives rise to hope."
Workers hustled Saturday to clear storm damage. Century 21 reopened and shopping resumed as Morristown finished off a tough week. Here's what we saw around town.
No power? No problem. At least, if you're yoga instructor Erica Jung. Jung, an instructor at The Club at Morristown (and regular Patch blogger), decided Tuesday to improvise when Headquarters Plaza, location of The Club, was still without power: Hold class on the Green. While the number of people was significantly less than usual, those that did come out got to enjoy the class amidst the pleasant weather, blue skies–and a few curious onlookers. Namaste.
On Monday, a day after Hurricane Irene had ripped through Morristown, flooding several roads and killing power, much of that water had receded from roadways. Now, it was time for recovery. Check out these photos, including many "before" and "after" views of several scenes.
First of all, a note: We do not recommend going out in this weather. Whether you think it has lightened up. Or, you think it wasn't that bad. We do not advise people to be out in this, if they don't have to be. That said, we were out and about during some of the wettest, windiest point at around 1, 2 a.m. on Sunday. Here is what we saw.
Batteries? Check. Water? Check. Wine? For some, check. Folks were prepping pre-hurricane weekend at Kings and A&P on Friday, grabbing essentials (for some, that also would include wine) before going outside is going to be a far less preferred option.
Goodbye, Washington Building. Once the demolition of the 50-year-old Morristown structure went into full swing, it was a matter of days before what had dominated the corner of Washington Street and Schuyler Place had opened up to the view of Tito's Burritos and The Grand Cafe (depending on which way you were looking). Now, what remains before the site can become a new pocket park is to clean up all the debris from the demolition.

Alice Cooper has been performing for audiences for more than four decades. And, on Monday night, a rousing audience came to The Community Theatre in Morristown to see the 63-year-old Detroit native perform from his extensive back catalog of material. Alice Cooper entered the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2011. With a music catalog of over 400 songs, 27 studio albums, and 11 top 40 hits, Alice Cooper is still doing what he does best: hard theatrical rock with a wry smile. The band that performed on this night included a special treat for many in guitarist Steve Hunter, who has played with …
Despite the rain, the Morristown Farmers Market had its share of visitors on Sunday. Plus, a solar-powered ice cream truck was giving away ice pops. For many, it was a great way to spend a rainy Sunday.
