Blue Moon Hike Through The Great Swamp
A blue moon will rise over the Morristown area on the evening of August 31, and the Great Swamp Watershed Association (GSWA) is celebrating! Join New Jersey environmental expert and educator Hazel England at 7:00 p.m. as she guides a twilight tour through forest and marsh at GSWA’s Conservation Management Area (CMA) in Harding Township. Tucked away at the very end of Tiger Lily Lane, this 53-acre, publicly accessible preserve positively teems with wildlife. And at night it is not uncommon to hear a coyote howl, flying squirrels chirping away, or barred owls calling out their signature who-cooks-for-you song.
Weather permitting, moonlight from the second full moon of August will light a path through the woods, but even an overcast evening will provide a rare opportunity for you and the kids to hone your nighttime senses and play outside after dark without a flashlight. So, why not do something different before Labor Day and back-to-school time? Check out the Great Swamp at night!
Space on this once-in-a-blue-moon, hike is limited; visit GSWA on Web at www.GreatSwamp.org to reserve your spot right now, or call 973-538-3500 x22 to make a phone reservation. GSWA members may participate at no additional cost. Non-members are asked to make a voluntary donation of $10/adult and $5/child (6 to 17 yrs.), or $35\family (4 people included). There is no voluntary donation requested for children under 5. Wet and muddy conditions are possible during this excursion, so appropriate footwear and clothing are recommended. Flashlights are optional.
