NEW JERSEY LITURGICAL PRAISE DANCERS GATHERING TO CELEBRATE LITURGICAL DANCE DAY ON MORRISTOWN GREEN
Morristown, NJ – September 7, 2012 -- Liturgical praise dancers from Morristown and throughout the New Jersey will gather on the Morristown Green to celebrate Liturgical Dance Day on Friday, September 7, 2012, at 6:30pm, through a brief service of prayer, praise dance and by reading a proclamation from Governor Christie.
Liturgical Dance Day seeks to highlight the purpose and importance of liturgical dance in the life and worship of congregations in New Jersey. Liturgical dance is a creative art form expressing reverence, adoration and praise for who God is and for His blessings to all creation.
Following the celebration on The Morristown Green, the praise dancers will march from The Morristown Green to The Church Of God In Christ, 3 Rowe Street in Morristown, for a celebratory worship service. The praise dancers will proceed down Speedwell Avenue, going right onto Flagler Street, then left on Martin Luther King Avenue, right on George Street and left onto Rowe Street to The Church Of God In Christ.
The celebratory worship service at the Church of God in Christ will begin at 7:45pm and will feature liturgical dance ministries from throughout New Jersey. The special guest dance minister, also known as a “dancing preacher,” will be Minister Sabrina McKenzie, Founder/CEO of the International Dance Commission. On her Facebook page, Minister McKenzie stated, “The Governors of New Jersey, Georgia, Maryland, South Carolina, New York, Virginia and Michigan have sanctioned September 7th (as) Liturgical Dance Day in honor of praise dancers around the world.”

Mrs. Sandra Rogers, the dance ministry leader at the Church of God in Christ, a certified liturgical dance teacher, and coordinator of this event, stated, “Over a year and a half ago, I began writing several letters to Governor Christie with a plea to acknowledge September 7th as Liturgical Dance Day across the State of New Jersey. Through the grace of God’s timely favor, my request has been granted. The time has finally come.”
In the event of rain, the celebration on the Morristown Green and the march will be cancelled, but the worship service will still be held at The Church of God in Christ at 7:45pm. The Governor’s proclamation will be read at the service.
