Budget Mondays

Monday – 11/11/2013

It’s Monday – a painful day for most people, yours truly included. Sometimes it is made even more painful as we remember just how much money we ended up spending over the weekend.

Budget

It’s one word that can make people cringe, angry and sad all at the same time, a rare occurrence indeed. There are plenty of reasons for this – people are told at work that their budgets are being cut, their ideas cannot be funded because they are not in the budget, and in our personal life, our budgets don’t usually quite match up to our desires.

With Halloween in the rearview mirror, Thanksgiving is coming quickly, and while it is a wonderful opportunity to spend time with family and friends, it is also an opportunity for people to blow their budgets. People focus on the amounts of money spent on holiday shopping for gifts and entertainment, but people may not pay too much attention to the amounts of money that are spent on food that is eaten in the home. Without keeping track of these costs, it is very easy to overspend on these items.

With that in mind let’s look at a few tips and suggestions that can make Thanksgiving enjoyable and budget friendly:

1) Plan out your meal – like anything else a plan is an integral part of succeeding
2) Use coupons!
3) Buy in bulk if you can for certain items
4) Be mindful of how many side dishes you buy

From personal experience, it is very important to actually look at how much food you are buying. Just because it is a holiday does not mean that people can automatically eat more — it leads to a lot of very full people and lots of leftovers!

As always, I have attached links with more information.
