The NJ Golf Foundation "Golf In Schools" Program Makes its Way to Students at Assumption School in Morristown

The nation’s largest “Golf In Schools” program made its debut at the Assumption School in Morristown this past week as students got to participate in 2-day instructional classes on the basic fundamentals of the game…in gym class. The New Jersey Golf Foundation (NJGF), the charitable arm of the New Jersey PGA Section manages the program, as PGA Professional Tony Santillo, (Spring Brook Country Club), and a group of PGA Professionals attended gym class to instruct the students, and assist the Physical Education teachers. The “Golf In Schools” program, which impacts more than 110,000 children (K-8) at more than 200 schools in New Jersey, is fully funded by the NJGF at no cost to school districts.  “Golf In Schools” is an initiative designed to introduce the game of golf to children by incorporating it into the physical education curriculum at elementary and middle schools, as the NJGF provides each school with developmentally appropriate equipment that allows golf to be learned and played in non-traditional venues, such as a school gymnasium and limited-space outdoor areas.
