3 Men Honored for Saving Woman From Suicide Attempt in Morristown

Morristown Medical Center nurse and security guard, along with local officers recognized for heroic actions in April.

Three men were honored by Morristown Medical Center this week for their heroic efforts in saving a woman from taking her own life earlier this year.

Morristown Police detective Keith Hudson, Morristown Registered Nurse John Constantinides, and Morristown Medical Center Security Officer Jerrod Mann were recognized for their part in an April 3 patient situation that began inside the hospital, and ended on a Rt. 287 overpass.

A female patient left the hospital on April 3 with the intent of harming herself, according to a statement from Atlantic Health System. The patient was seen fleeing on Franklin Street, and attempted to scale a fence on the portion of roadway that bridged Rt. 287 in “an apparent attempt to take her own life,” the statement said.

Because of the actions of Constantinides, Hudson and Mann, the patient was pulled from the fence, restrained and returned to the hospital where she received treatment.

“The event is an example of the collaborative effort of local law enforcement, security and nursing in responding to an emergency,” the statement said.
