Anti-Gun Violence Rally, Vigil Set for Valentine's Day

The vigil will gather on the Morristown Green.

As the two-month anniversary of the Newtown shooting approaches, the Morris Area Committee to Reduce Gun Violence has scheduled an anti-gun violence vigil and rally called "Have a Heart—Take a Stand" on Feb. 14.

The rally is to encourage common sense gun laws at the local, state and federal levels in order to reduce gun violence.

According to a press statement by the Morris Area Committee to Reduce Gun Violence, those who attend the rally are encouraged to design decorative hearts to wear on their clothes with the names of children they love. The heart project is in solidarity with the One Million Moms campaign entitled, "How do you wear your heart?"

Rev. Alison Miller of the Morristown Unitarian Fellowship, who was a victim of gun violence when she was only 4 years old, will speak at the rally, as well Pastor Sidney Williams, a member of the Morris Area Clergy Council, and a pediatric ER doctor from Atlantic Health.

The rally will take place on the Morristown Green at 5 p.m., Feb. 14. Participants are encouraged to bring their own candles, flashlights and/or glow sticks.

I, for one, am glad to see so much local interest and passion on this topic. Who is doing this is not what's important. The focus is, and should be, on the subject..... reducing gun violence in our country. I will be at the rally and have also written my congressional representatives.

Sandy Hook was a travesty though using this as a motive to promote laws that go against our constitution is candid. Since when do criminals follow laws anyway? There was only 1 murder in Morristown in the last 10 years which wasn't done by a gun. Raise awareness in Paterson or Newark (which i'm sure they are aware of the violence). Having a vigil is one thing but I will be defecting because of the political agenda behind the cause.

Why have laws at all, right?

Well said Doug. Feldman seems to be trying to put her name in front of what is really important here. She is all about becoming mayor any which way she can
