ON BEING A PERCEPTIVE READER OF REVELATION

The basic messages of the Book of Revelation are easy to understand.  Probably the greatest obstacle is presuppositions readers bring to the task.  One common assumption is that hidden meanings lie behind every symbol (number, star, battle, etc.) leading to considerable speculation, focused mostly around the future of the world (or lack of one).  Such assumptions undercut the relevant messages of Revelation for present Christian readers.  We will explore the Book of Revelation using basic tools allowing us to be sensitive, perceptive readers.  Prior to class, please read at least the first chapter of Revelation—twice.  A second session follows in November.  Please join us for either or both classes.
