Winter Solstice Celebration

Need a break from all the holiday hubbub? Put on your warm woolies and join Grow It Green Morristown at the Early Street Community Garden in Morristown on Wednesday, Dec. 21, at 7 p.m. for a Winter Solstice Celebration.

Many communities celebrate the Winter Solstice, the day when the sun reaches its southernmost point in the sky. In more Northern locales, celebrations can be quite dramatic with activities that include building huge bonfires and burning “Old Man Winter” in effigy. Grow it Green Morristown is embracing the Winter Solstice Celebration as a way of getting the community back into the garden to enjoy a bit of the longest winter night together. Grow it Green's Solstice Celebration offers an opportunity for everyone, from young families to senior citizens, to relax and enjoy some time in the garden while participating in fun activities that help you reflect on the past year and set your intentions for the year ahead.

Dec. 21st marks Grow it Green's Second Annual Winter Solstice Celebration. At last year’s event, participants munched on delicious snacks from Morristown’s own Artist Baker, while sipping hot chocolate and doing moon salutations led by yoga instructor Jeannette Howard. This year’s festivities include the Artist Baker and the yogi, who are back by popular demand, as well as some new activities to celebrate the return of the sun. If you’re craving an hour to relax and reconnect in a meaningful way, away from the frenetic fluorescence of the mall, consider attending Grow it Green's Winter Solstice Celebration, which is free and open to the public.
