Help Grow the Early Street Community Garden

What is better than having a community garden in the heart of the Speedwell Redevelopment Project?

Having a hand in designing it.

Grow it Green Morristown is beginning to plan renovations that will significantly increase the number of garden beds available. Additional amenities to the site will include public seating, demonstration rain garden, community gathering place and a passive park along the front of the property on Early Street. Grow it Green Morristown is holding two community design workshops to solicit public input for the renovations at the Early Street Community Garden. These workshops will allow the public to learn more about the Garden, explore potential park amenities, and collaborate with GIGM on the new design for the almost one-acre lot.

The first session will be on Jan. 23 at 6:30 p.m. at the Morristown Town Hall, 1st Floor Lobby, 200 South Street in Morristown. Transportation from the Senior Housing Complex on Early Street is available by reservation by calling Carolle Huber at (201) 572-1555.

The second session will be on Jan. 28 at 7 p.m. at St. Margaret’s Church, 6 Sussex Ave., Morristown, NJ. This session will be a repeat of the previous workshop, however Spanish language translation will be available.

Grow it Green Morristown opened the Early Street Community Garden in May of 2009 on a littered, vacant lot in the heart of the Town of Morristown’s Speedwell Redevelopment District. Since opening, the Community Garden has become a local gathering place and a fixture in the Morristown community and was permanently protected in June of 2013.

Light refreshments will be served at both sessions.
