Morristown Boy Scout Awarded Top Honor

15-year-old MHS sophomore William Aguayo recognized for saving his brother from drowning.

A Morristown High School teen was recognized for “unusual heroism or resourcefulness in saving or attempting to save life at extreme risk to self” at the Boy Scouts of America's Patriots Path Council annual awards celebration Feb. 25. The ceremony was held at the Hanover Manor in East Hanover, according to a report in NJ.com.

William Aguayo, 15, a member of BSA Troop 112 and a sophomore at Morristown High, was awarded the Scouting's Honor Medal with Crossed Palms for . The younger boy nearly drowned while they were boogie boarding in the Pacific Ocean on a family vacation to Ecuador in 2012.

Only 278 Boy Scouts, including Aguayo, have received the medal since it was first given in 1938.
