Morristown Lawyer to Help 'Preserve Greystone' Effort With Free Counsel

James Sullivan will assist nonprofit in trying to keep historic landmarks standing, report says.

The ongoing effort to keep the former Greystone Psychiatric Hospital from the fate of demolition before the end of 2014 just got some much needed legal help.

According to morristowngreen.com, James Sullivan Jr. of Sullivan & Graber in Morristown will help the nonprofit organization Preserve Greystone with pro bono legal counsel. Sullivan joins Parsippany attorney Steve Humphreys in the effort, who has previously helped the group with other legal matters, the report said.

Despite a plan presented by a Long Island-based company, Alma Realty, for more than $100 million that would preserve the land and turn it into housing and retail, the state is holding firm to swing the wrecking ball before the end of the year.

The cost to demolish the currently standing buildings is approximately $50 million.

At the Morris County Board of Chosen Freeholders most recent meeting, freeholder Doug Cabana said he wanted to look at the project further and discussed with other members the passing of a resolution that would, at the very least, stall the demolition process so proposals could be further analyzed.
