Shop, Eat Local to Benefit Nurses at Morristown Medical

On Tuesday and Wednesday get a 10 percent discount when you mention Morristown Medical Center or "Hospital Week;" businesses will also donate 10 percent to benefit nurses

Last week was National Nurses Week and the nurses in our communities were recognized for their generous efforts.

Nurses at Morristown Medical Center were honored throughout last week and they decided to donate $25,000 to the Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Relief Fund rather than receive a gift for their service. The week culminated with a special donation ceremony with New Jersey First Lady Mary Pat Christie at Drumthwacket, the official residence of Gov. Chris Christie.

However, to keep the momentum going, Morristown Medical Center and the Morristown Partnership teamed up to offer discounts at participating downtown businesses while also supporting nursing at the hospital. On Tuesday and Wednesday shop and dine local and receive a 10 percent discount when you mention Morristown Medical Center or “Hospital Week.” Plus, the business will donate an additional 10 percent to benefit nurses’ continuing education or professional development.

“Morristown Partnership is happy to partner with the Foundation for Morristown Medical Center to develop the Shop & Dine Locally program for Hospital Week,” said Michael Fabrizio, executive director, Morristown Partnership. “It offers a great opportunity to connect Morristown’s largest employer with the greater business community.”

Atlantic Health System, parent organization of Morristown Medical Center, will provide afternoon shuttles to bring hospital employees downtown to eat, shop, and explore the nearly 30 participating merchants. Names also will be entered in a raffle to win gift certificates, thanks to the Morristown Partnership, the organization that promotes downtown commerce.

“We want our employees and the community to enjoy what downtown Morristown has to offer, and are grateful that local store owners are choosing to give back to the hospital at the same time,” said Jim Quinn, chief development officer, Foundation for Morristown Medical Center. “This is a program that strengthens the ties between the hospital and the community.”
