Super Bowl Sand Sculpture Lines Up Near Morristown Green

Twelve tons of New Jersey sand, statue commissioned to create excitement about the Super Bowl in Morris County.

Anyone traveling near the Morristown Green would be hard pressed not to notice the 12 tons of sand and water that sculptors Andy Gertler and Sue Beatrice carved into General George Washington at the intersection of Schuyler Place and Washington Ave.

The famous founding father is depicted with with a football and wording to promote Super Bowl XXXXVIII, which will be played at MetLife Stadium in the Meadowlands Feb. 2, 2014.

The statue was commissioned by the Morris County Tourism Bureau. Morris County will host the AFC team at the Jets Training facility in Florham Park before the game.

The sculpture is expected to last through the end of October, but the remnants of tropical storm Karen might accelerate the wear.
