Video/Photos: Morristown Relief Effort Heads Outdoors, on TV

She wants a lot of people to know about the  scheduled for June 4. 

With the help of coverage from a local television network, and her pledge to sleep outside in a tent this week until 9 a.m. Saturday, when the relief effort is set to begin in the Town Hall parking lot, Berit Ollestad hopes the UPS-donated truck that will be stationed in the parking lot will be filled to bursting by the time it heads down to the United Way's Alabama headquarters in Tuscaloosa. There, supplies will be divvied out to those that have been devastated in that part of the country, from tornadoes that have ripped homes, and lives apart.

"At the end of this, I can go back into my house. They can't," she said Tuesday near the corner of Hamilton Road and Franklin Street, as she worked on setting up the tent, prior to an interview with the News 12 New Jersey televison network. "I just want everyone to know what we're doing here."

The tent is not just being set up to help Ollestad prove a point; she also is encouraging people to make donations to the relief effort there, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. throughout the week, if they will be unable to stop by Town Hall on Saturday.

The Seattle native has been very busy since moving to Morristown just about a year ago. Among other initiatives, she has routinely organized relief and awareness efforts for a favela in Brazil, where she had lived for two years.

Ollestad might have her attention-grabbing work cut out for her, though,
