“It’s a fun musical about romance, relationships and how we all try our best to screw them up,” said Ed Kirchdoerffer, general manager of the theater. “The music and comedy are fun, fresh and modern, and anyone who has ever been in a relationship will relate to the story.”

Four actors play more than 40 roles in a collection of scenes and songs scaling the spectrum of male-female relationships, said Comunity Theatre spokesperson Katie Lemery.

“[The play] reveals the difficulties and joys of connecting with another person, no matter what the age,” she added.

“I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change” opened at the Westside Theatre in New York in 1996, following highly acclaimed engagements at New Haven’s prestigious Long Wharf Theatre and the American Stage Company in New Jersey, where the production set a new box office record, according to the release.

On Jan. 7, 2001–with performance No. 1,848–the New York production became Off-Broadway’s longest running musical revue, breaking the longstanding record by "Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris."

Tickets to the Feb. 12 event are $32 to $57, and Kirchdoerffer said the show is close to selling out, with only about 150 tickets left. To secure a spot, call the Mayo Center box office at 973-539-8008.
