Brick by Brick: Over 60 Years of LEGO Innovation and Inspiration

Who isn’t familiar with those little, eight-pegged, primary-colored bricks?  What adult didn’t have a loose set of these bricks as a child and has probably purchased a Harry Potter or Star Wars set for their child today?  LEGO is the world’s fourth largest manufacturer of toys and not only builds the little bricks with which so many children are familiar, but also has a line of popular video games, books based on their products and even theme parks in Florida, California, Europe, and Malaysia.  But more than that, LEGO has encouraged people to make their own artistic creations, from master replicas of famous buildings to massive LEGO ‘towns’ from the sets they have collected over the years.

The Morristown and Morris Township Library is putting together an exhibit on the history of LEGO and their building sets and innovations since the company’s founding in Denmark in the 1930s.  The exhibit will be on display in the second floor, F.M. Kirby Exhibition Gallery from September 15 through November 11.  The exhibit will feature various LEGO sets from the past, some of their new innovations, and realms ‘beyond the brick’, in which LEGO (and some enthusiasts) have gone.
