Kean Student Calm and Collected Just Days Before Morristown's Got Talent!

Catherine Rothweiler will sing "The Girl in 14G," originally performed by Broadway actress Kristin Chenoweth.

Morristown High School alum and current Kean University student, Catherine Rothweiler, decided to audition for Morristown’s Got Talent! because of an e-mail.

“My friend sent me an e-mail with a link to the Morristown’s Got Talent! auditions,” she said. “So I decided to audition because of her.”

Even though Rothweiler–who will share her vocal talents with the audience of the Community Theater on Wednesday, Feb. 23–has never competed before, she said she is completely calm just days before the show.

“I’ll be singing 'The Girl in 14G,’” Rothweiler said. “I heard it on a YouTube video and I really liked it; I thought it was really entertaining.”

The song was written for and originally sung by Kristin Chenoweth, best known for her musical theater career; even though the song starts off sounding straight out of a Broadway musical, it also briefly shifts into opera—which is just fine by Rothweiler.

“Opera is my favorite genre of music to sing,” she said. “It’s challenging, and it’s different from everything else.”

Rothweiler said she is passionate about music, and holds an associate’s degree in musical theater; as a student at Morristown High School, she was in the orchestra and performed in most of the school’s musicals.

But she’s now taking a different path during her undergraduate career. “I’m actually a writing major,” she said.

If Rothweiler wins the big prize, $1,000, it’s all going toward education. “I still have a year of college left,” she said. “So I would put it toward tuition.”

But the prize money is not what Rothweiler is looking forward to the most, and she’s not overwhelmed at the thought of the large audience that will be in attendance for the show. She’s just looking forward to performing for her friends and family members.

“I have a lot of people coming to see the show,” she said. “It’s nice for people to see me sing who usually don’t get to see me perform.”
