Performing in Morristown's Got Talent 'an Honor' for Emma Farinacci

Peck School seventh-grader will sing Adele's "Rolling in the Deep" at fifth-annual event Feb. 29.

When deciding what to perform at tryouts for this year's Morristown's Got Talent, 13-year-old Emma Farinacci said Adele's "Rolling in the Deep" seemed the perfect choice.

Calling her voice "smoky," the smily seventh-grader joins 15 other participants in the annual event, which comes to the on Feb. 29.

Although she has not received any formal training, Emma has sang pretty much her entire young life. But, singing competitively began about two-years-ago.

"My cousin Nolan started singing," she said. "He sang, and I knew I could."

The two cousins performed in a small talent show, which Emma said she thought would be comparable to what she was in for when trying out for Morristown's Got Talent. "I didn't expect it to be this big," she said.

Given the stiff competition, the Mendham Township resident said she was really surprised when she was named one of the finalists. "I got a little nervous, a little intimidated," she admitted.

Now that tryouts and media days are out of the way, Emma is taking it easy. She said she's not nervous, "yet," she said.

"I don't want the whole experience to end," she said. "It's a whole different experience than I've had before. I'm really excited to be there. It's a real honor to be performing."

If she is one of the three selected to win a cash prize, Emma said she planned to donate 10 percent to a childhood cancer charity, some to her church and "the rest? Who knows?

"Maybe I'll get a new phone or something," she said.

The fifth-annual Morristown's Got Talent will be held Feb. 29 at the Mayo Performing Arts Center. For more information, check out our MGT 2012 guide.
