Morristown Actress Headlines Award Winning Play

Katrina Ferguson stars in the Women's Theater Company's production of Master Class.

Opening the Women's Theater Company season is Terrence McNally’s Tony-Award winning play Master Class directed by Barbara Krajkowski, running from Sept. 20 through Oct. 6.

Master Class is based on the larger-than-life opera diva, Maria Callas, who later in her career, held master classes at Juilliard in the 1970’s.  In the play, the glamorous, commanding and hysterical Maria Callas, played by equity actress Katrina Ferguson of Morristown, teaches a master class and shares her experience in opera and stage with the attendees.

Three different students Sophie, played by Jill Cappuccino of Oldwick, Tony, played by Christopher Sierra of Clifton, and Sharon, played by Elise Brancheau of Bergenfield, have the opportunity to sing in front of Callas and her accompanist Manny, played by Amanda Zook of Haledon and receive constructive criticism.

As each student performs, they become ‘victims’ of Callas’s callousness.  Callas comically and poignantly reminisces about her life on and off the stage, soliloquizing her innermost thoughts, regrets and personal inadequacies.

All Women’s Theater Company performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m.
