Morristown Coffee Shop to Host Local Band

Rigbi plays on Aug. 10 at Drip Coffee.

Drip Coffee on the Morristown Green will welcome local band Rigbi on Aug. 10.

“Drip actually found us and asked if we wanted to play during one of their Saturday night music spots … They are "discovering" local talent,” said Marc Reynolds, band manager.

Rigbi has been a group for almost 15 years but officially formed in 2011, according to its website. After coming together, they went to work on a self-titled album at Landbridge Records in Sparta, which came out last year. Here’s a look at who’s in the band:
  • Brian Cornish - drums
  • Jon Irizarry - vocals, guitar
  • Patrick Maloney - keyboards, glockenspiel, percussion
  • Rick Rogers - guitar
  • Randy Sabo - bass
The band members grew up in Sussex County and the studio they own and operate is in Sparta, where Cornish lives. Irizarry and Maloney currently live in Morris Plains. Sabo lives in Montebello, NY, and Rogers hails from Blairstown.

“The fact that they all went to school together when they were young and started playing music together in 5th-6th grade, I think is great.  The guys are super talented, creative and just really well grounded and down to earth,” said Reynolds.

Reynolds is also the band’s photographer.

“I met them about a year and a half ago when I was looking for music for a short documentary I was making.  Randy had worked with my wife at Novartis and she suggested I speak to him and see if they could work with me on the sound for the video.  Needless to say, I found a track that I loved that was going to be on their first CD.  They tweaked it for me, took out the lyrics and it turned out very well.  It even eventually lead to someone getting a TV gig,” said Reynolds.

After spending time with the band, Reynolds asked them if they ever had anyone helping them manage the band. When they said no, he suggested himself and “they all thought it was a great idea. The beauty of it is, I am their built-in photographer as well.”
