Morristown Partnership Sponsors Eighth Annual Moonlight Movies in Morristown

Four-week free film series begins on The Green Thurs., Aug. 5, with "Iron Man".

Grab your beach blankets and popcorn, because Hollywood is returning to the Morristown Green.

Beginning at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 5, the Morristown Partnership will be sponsoring its eighth annual free "Moonlight Movies in Morristown."

"For all those enjoying staycations in August, Moonlight Movies in Morristown will be the perfect way to entertain your family on a warm summer night," said Jennifer Wehring, director of marketing for Morristown Partnership.  "As one of Morristown Partnership's free community events, Moonlight Movies in Morristown offers our residents and visitors an affordable night out in downtown Morristown."

The series kicks off Aug. 5 with the PG-13 Marvel Comics blockbuster "Iron Man", starring Robert Downey Jr. as witty, wealthy industrialist-cum-superhero Tony Stark.  After being kidnapped in a war zone and forced to create a weapon of mass destruction, Stark discovers that he is more than an adventurous playboy–he is Iron Man.

The 2009 animated family-favorite "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs," rated PG, will bow the following Thursday, Aug. 12.  Based on the eponymous children's book by Judi and Ron Barrett, "Cloudy" is the tale of Flint Lockwood, an oft-maligned scientist who invents a machine that solves world hunger, but creates a new problem: boulder-sized meatballs falling from the sky.

The stylish 2003 remake of 1969's classic caper "The Italian Job" (PG-13) zooms into town on Aug. 19.  After being double-crossed on a big-time heist, veteran thief Charlie Croker (Mark Wahlberg) travels from Italy to California to avenge the betrayal.

The Moonlight Movies in Morristown series closes on Aug. 26 with "Akeelah and the Bee" (PG), the tale of a precocious young girl from Los Angeles and her journey from amateur speller to a top contender on the national spelling bee circuit.  Akeelah is helped along the way by her coach, Dr. Larabee (Laurence Fishburne).

From superheroes to spelling bees, this summer's offerings have something for everyone, Wehring said.  The film series is funded by Goryeb Children's Hospital, Audio Visual Dynamics, Morristown This Week, MetLife Resources and Huntington Learning Center.  The event begins every week at 7 p.m., and the movies begin at dusk.  There are no rain dates for this event.
