Talent, Steak, Transformers (More Than Meets the Eye) and More

Here are some highlights from the week that was.

It was yet another busy week here in the Morris County capital, with everything from Morristown's Got Talent!, to our review of Roots Steakhouse, to what was initially reported as a manhole explosion (but what ended up not being quite as critical).

This is our Week in Review, catching you up on some things you may have missed.

  • On Tuesday, Gov. Chris Christie gave his long-awaited budget speech announcing, among several things, that state aid to muncipalities would remain flat, while schools districts would actually see an increase.
  • On Wednesday, the . Council members Raline Smith-Reid and Rebecca Feldman voted against them, with Feldman wishing to have people patronize all of Morristown's businesses, not just the ones with easy access outside.
  • Also on Wednesday, competition. Kaitlin kept us apprised of the evening's events all night, with periodic texts. George provided us with early Thursday morning.
  • On Thursday, Morristown Patch headed over to Morristown High School, (who, by the way, had taken third place in MGT the night before) were honored for being named National Merit Scholarship finalists.
  • Friday brought . We went there for lunch, which offers some much less expensive options than $30, $40 steaks, but does include the $28.95 8 ounce Filet Mignon. How does this steak stack up to all the hype that has surrounded the restaurant opening? Check out our review!
  • Also on Friday, we got a bit of a scare when we heard about a "manhole explosion" on the corner of Market Street and Maple Avenue. (especially for the owner of the business that reported a "boom" sound outside) still felt a little too close for comfort in the shadow of several underground explosions in town over the last 20 years.
  • Also on Friday, we had , including Linda Murphy, principal of MHS, David Walker, executive director of Neighborhood House, and Felicia Brown Jamison, who was a pioneer in the merger of the Morristown and Morris Township school districts.
  • Finally, on Saturday, Denise Addis' regular column, . The piece has already had several comments, so read and feel free to offer up yours, as well!

Well, that's it for now. Be sure to check back every Sunday to catch up on what you may have missed during the week. And, as always, be safe!
