Your Weekend: Jerzey Derby Brigade, Single Mingle and More

The Jerzey Derby Brigade was formed in January 2010, but has been growing steadily since its inception, and now includes approximately 50 skaters and refs, according to Jennifer Setteducato, a skater for the Major Pains, the newest of the Jerzey Derby Brigade’s two Morristown-based teams.

The brigade’s season will begin , when the Corporal Punishers start their second season against the Major Pains in their debut.

“It’s a great thing,” Setteducato said. “If you want to check out a sporting event, it’s definitely a unique one. It’s very exciting, it’s fast-paced, you get to see some hitting, and girls in scantily-clad clothing … but it’s fun for all ages. It’s not as if there is something bad that goes on that you can’t bring your kids.”

The Major Pains and Corporal Punishers practice together, but because of the number of skaters, they’ve split into two teams. Setteducato described the Major Pains as the “B-team,” consisting of many of the Jerzey Derby Brigade’s newest skaters.

“We’ve been training all winter,” Setteducato said. “We haven’t really stopped … we’d just really love to get as much local support as possible.”

The match will be held at from 6:15 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, April 2. Tickets are available online or at the door for $12.

Why Go: Because Pilobolus is a collaborative dance troupe that, according to the Community Theatre’ website, is “The dance company for those who don’t like dance.”
