Child Struck By Car Visiting Morristown Green

7-year-old Morris Plains girl was crossing mid-block when the accident occurred.

A 7-old-girl from Morris Plains visiting the Christmas display on the green with her family was struck by a car when they attempted to cross South Park Place outside of a crosswalk, Morristown Police said.

According to Lt. Stuart Greer was crossing mid-block on South Park Place heading over to the Green when a truck stopped in one lane to let them cross.

"The little girl stepped into the next lane where she was struck by a car," Greer said. "It appears that the stopped truck blocked the other driver's view of her and he did not have time to stop."

Greer said the investigation showed that the driver of the vehicle was within the speed limit and properly in his lane and family was crossing in mid-block and was not in a designated crosswalk. Based upon those facts, the driver was determined not to be at fault in this incident, Greer said.

"The little girl was extremely lucky and I'm being told that she only received minor injuries," Greer said. "She was treated and transported to the ER at Morristown Medical Center as a precaution."
