The site of Honeywell headquarters in Morris Township could get a very large makeover, now that that the company has agreed to a developer taking over its 147-acre tract of land.
RG-Columbia LLC, an affiliate of Rockefeller Group Development Corporation, has submitted a general development plan to the township for the property located at 101 Columbia Road, according to a statement from the municipality.
RG-Columbia would develop the office and lab section of the property while K. Hovnanian Homes would develop the residential portion of the property, the statement said.
Honeywell would retain a portion of the site for their laboratory building, while titles would be transferred to RG-Columbia and K. Hovnanian for their respective portions.
The development plan includes 900,000-square-feet of office and lab space; 235 townhouses plus a community center; and 14.68 acres of open space.
“We are pleased that this property will not be vacant and the new commercial and residential components will strengthen the Township’s fiscal stability,” Mayor Bruce Sisler said in the statement. “This is great news for the taxpayers and residents of Morris Township.”
The general development plan is expected to be presented to the Township of Morris Planning Board later this year. Meeting dates and times will be announced when they are known.
