AMC Takes Over Morristown Movies Monday

Theater located in Headquarters Plaza plans to open in 'one or two weeks.'

Last month, AMC theatres announced they would be opening a 10-screen cinema that will replace the Bow Tie Cinemas, which closed in June and the news was met with much rejoicing.

But the question most commonly asked after that was "when can I get back in line for tickets?"

According to officials for AMC, the answer might be sooner than you think.

"AMC will take over operations of the theatre on Monday," said AMC director of Public Relations Ryan Noonan. "And hope to be open to guests in the next week or two."

The excitement expressed over the announcement has been palpable and that has not been lost on officials at Headquarters Plaza.

“The enthusiasm from the community for the re-opening of the movie theatre has been overwhelming,” said Seth Schochet, Vice President of the Commercial Division of The Olnick Organization, which developed Headquarters Plaza in partnership with Fisher Development Associates. “The theater has been a fixture in Morristown since the 1980’s and we are very excited that we were able to bring AMC back to Morristown and Headquarters Plaza.”

While the reopening will take place sooner rather than later, there are still many changes on the way for the cinema.

"We’ll begin renovations in early 2014. We should be done with the majority of the construction by late spring," Noonan said.

The plan to renovate the theatre (auditoriums, concession stand, etc.) in phases is to ensure guests can still come see new releases coming to the big screen during the next few months.

Dine In?

As for the whispers the renovations would include a Fork and Screen dining option like Bridgewater or a Cinemas Suites eating experience like the Essex Green, those proved to be false. However, Noonan said the upgrades planned that will make patrons pleased.

"While not an AMC Dine-In Theatres location, we think guests will be amazed by the renovations when they’re complete," Noonan said. "We’ll be installing the most comfortable power recliners imaginable, and providing an improved concession experience."

New menu items will include favorite traditional concessions like popcorn and candy, along with items like chicken tenders, mozzarella sticks, French fries, jalapeño poppers, pizza and Coca-Cola Freestyle. But the theater equipment itself will also be getting a major overhaul.

"We’ll be renovating the sight and sound presentation aspects in the auditoriums, and putting up fresh paint, new carpet, and renovating the restrooms," Noonan said.
