Kings Parking Lot Paving Expected to be Finished

Major work began Tuesday morning, Aug. 31, and was to be completed by the evening.

As temperatures soared into the 90s during this week, workers were out finishing the repaving project at the Kings Supermarket, causing further traffic delays along that portion of South Street.

Anthony O'Brien, one of two officers on duty in the afternoon for traffic guidance, tried to lighten up the mood with the paving crew.

"Good news the temperature only reads 99 now," he said, referring to the Union Center bank temperature reading across the street.

For one of the nine workers out in the heat, that temperature was nothing compared to what the hot tar was when it was being placed. "It's about 360 degrees," said the worker, who asked not to be named.

That employee, who said the crew had been out since 7 a.m., was expected to finish the repaving that evening. By late afternoon, only a small portion by the sidewalk leading into Kings was still in need of repaving.
