A U.S. News and World Report 2013 survey of physicians throughout the nation ranks Morristown Medical Center as the #3 hospital in New Jersey.
Physicians polled honored the institution with two national rankings: 38th in cardiology and heart surgery and 37th in gynecology.
The hospital was among 148 facilities—only about 3 percent of the 4,793 studied—to earn a ranking in even one of the 16 specialties.
Additionally, Morristown's hospital was classified as "high performing" in nine adult specialties: cancer, diabetes and endocrinology, gastroenterology, geriatrics, nephrology, neurology and neurosurgery, orthopedics and pulmonology.
It is also ranked as the #10 medical facility in the New York metropolitan area.
Morristown Medical Center, a teaching hospital, had 33,976 admissions in the most recent year reported, 77,093 emergency room visits, and performed 12,387 annual inpatient and 15,207 outpatient surgeries.
U.S. News also reported that an August 2012 patient survey showed 76 percent of patients rated MMC highest or very high (state average 62 percent) and 82 percent (state average 65 percent) would recommend the facility to a family member or friend.
