New Fitness Center Offers 24-Hour Training

Full-Time Fitness, on Bank Street, promotes "functional fitness."

When major developments come to town, often a new and diverse crop of businesses pop up around it.

That seems to have been the case the last couple years as the former Epstein’s department store has given way to the 40 Park luxury development. Along with new restaurants that opened in the complex, Full-Time Fitness, a 24-hour "functional training studio," opened in a 3,200-square-foot space behind the Famished Frog restaurant on Washington Street in December.

The center is owned by certified trainers Matthew Scarfo and Michael Farley. Scarfo, 31, grew up in Mount Olive and was certified by the National Association of Sports Medicine nine years ago.

After working at a Chester fitness center, he and Farley opened up their Morristown center Dec. 20, with an eye for providing "a more personal relationship with clients in a smaller setting.

“Working individually helps reduce the frustration” which can arise when a client does not feel the fitness program is working, Scarfo said. The club has 80 members and 15 to 20 clients in personal training programs at present. One-on-one training is available, he said.

Scarfo said the clients so far are between the late 20s and 40 years old, but the staff is qualified to work with clients of all ages. He said the staff can work with cardiovascular patients on their recovery with the permission of their doctor.

He said they felt the site, a block off the Morristown Green, will allow them to attract the residents of Morristown who live in the neighborhood, and the many professionals who work in the surrounding offices near the Morris County government complex.

The center offers a mid-day membership, Scarfo said, that allows members to use the facility from 10:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m.. The goal, he said, is to keep the center as affordable as possible.

Programs focus on weight loss, training exercises and body sculpting. The center features equipment that allows the client to works on cardiovascular fitness, others for strength training, in addition to free weights.

Scarfo said the center is open 24 hours a day, and protected by extensive security measures. Staff is on site from 7 a.m. to either 8 or 9 p.m. daily, except Sunday, when the center is staffed until 5 p.m.

Scarfo said the center offers women a chance to train  in a private area at the rear of the facility. With large class windows the workout area is highly visible, he said, and the separate area can offer more privacy, if desired.

The center is located at 17 Bank St. For information call 973-401-9000 or visit www.Full-TimeFit.com.
