Now Playing: Movies Return to Morristown on Friday

AMC Theatres expected to re-open 10-screen cinema Friday at noon.

The movies return to Morristown this weekend.

AMC, which recently took over the 10-screen cinema at Headquarters Plaza, will open its doors Friday at noon, according to the Morristown Green.

AMC Theatres will occupy the 40,000 square-foot movie theater space previously controlled by Clearview Cinemas (now Bow Tie Cinemas), which closed its Morristown location at the end of June.

"The owners of the complex knew how much the community wanted a movie theater," Mayor Tim Dougherty said. "As mayor, you an use many tools in order to help bring the community what they want. After a few conversations with them, we knew we were on the same page. We let them negotiate their business. I respected their business decisions and within six weeks they had a deal.

"You have to make these judgements as mayor. And you have a lot of different hats you have to wear. Smart business practices allow people to be successful. In this case they were able to seal the deal and I am looking forward to the theater opening."

AMC, which originally operated the theater when Headquarters Plaza was first opened, is planning a major renovation of the space in 2014.

Renovations planned for the 10-screen theater include plush power recliners, a revamped concession area that includes hot foods such as mozzarella sticks, chicken tenders, French fries and pizza, Coca-Cola Freestyle machines and state-of-the-art presentation equipment, such as new movie screens, new speakers and 100 percent digital projectors. The improvements will be completed in phases, allowing the theater to remain open during the work.

Eric "Fluffy" Glover, the popular ticket-taker, expects to be back on a part-time basis, but said he was hoping to work full-time, according to the Morristown Green.

"Fluffy" became a popular fixture at the cinema with his antics and now-famous cash-register noise and smile since 1993.
