'See Ya!' Tino Martinez Visits Morristown

The former N.Y. Yankee made donations to Local PBA.

For Morristown and fans of Yankee great Tino Martinez, Tuesday afternoon was a homerun.

Martinez, who played first base for 16 years, including seven in New York and the rest for the Seattle Mariners, St. Louis Cardinals and Tampa Bay Rays, stopped by Morristown Town Hall on May 17 to donate some memorabilia to the Morristown Policeman's Benevolent Association, Local 43.

The baseball great also is in town because Jeff Crowther, who worked with Martinez for Tampa Bay, is part of the Florida-based Catalina Marketing Firm, which is having a luncheon at the on Wednesday, May 18. Martinez will be speaking at the luncheon to discuss "how [I] can relate the goods and bads of major league baseball to their business," he said Tuesday at .

Martinez plays golf in Springfield with Tim O'Neill, a representative of baseball players, whom Martinez met through the business. This prompted Martinez to donate autographed items to the Morristown Policeman's Benevolent Association, Local 43. 

"We're all friends," said Morristown Mayor Tim Dougherty, "and we all work together and we're very grateful that [Tino Martinez] is donating and helping out in Morristown."
