5 Bike Rides to Take Today

The calendar still says it's winter; the weather does not care.

It may be March 7–still a couple weeks away from spring–on the calendar, but that does not seem to matter to Mother Nature.

The temperature is supposed to get up to about 60 degrees today, with it climbing even higher on Thursday. This got us thinking about a couple rides around town we could try, so long as the bike isn't run-down from lack of use.

  1. You Need to Know About Ann Street: Oh, my goodness. Why did we start with this? This monster of a hill, starting at the bottom at Bank Street, and climbing, climbing, climbing up to Western Avenue, is definitely one for the champions. You're a champion, aren't you?
  2. You Need to Know About Fort Nonsense: Since you'll be in the area, you can cruise up to Fort Nonsense, which is accessible from Chestnut Street (but first you have to climb up Ann Street, that saucy dame. Or, you could grab it from the top at Western Avenue). The views of Morristown from on-high, and the general quiet and peace up there, will be well worth the sweat.
  3. You Need to Know About Cruising Around the Green: Before we lose everyone with these suggestions, here's one no one can complain about. Get a cruiser bike with a really cushy, spring-loaded seat, and give it a few turns in and around the Green. . That's what we call luxury.
  4. You Need to Know About Meatless Monday ... on Wednesday! One of the rides Bike and Walk Morristown does for its week is a ride over to Morris Plains to get some falafel at . That's pretty much just a straight shot down Speedwell Avenue. If you're not feeling quite as ride-y, though, you can always stay in town and ride over to .
  5. You Need to Know About the Urban Tour: This is a name we just came up with to describe a ride that hits several commercial areas of Morristown in one trip. Start at , cruise down South Street to the Green, head up Speedwell Avenue to Speedwell Lake, loop around at Cory Road and down Spring Street to Morris Street and ride that puppy down to the . Exercise, scenery and history all in one ride, in one town.
